Casting Cares

By Sheila Barnett

“Cast all your care upon Him because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

When I was a child, an afternoon of fishing at the pond with Grandpa was always a welcome treat. Thankfully, Grandpa was willing to touch the icky worms and bait the hook for me, but then I happily took over. Seeing how far I could cast my line into the water was great fun. I always tried to get that worm a little farther into the pond with each cast.

The Bible tells us that God cares about us and that we can – and should – cast our worries on Him. The word “cast” reminds me that throwing our anxieties far away from ourselves and letting Him take over is a good strategy to use. The farther out we cast our concerns, the less likely we are to reel them back to ourselves when we are tempted to start worrying again.

Psalm 68:19 says, “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens”. We can cast all our cares far away and give them to Jesus – every single day – because He cares for us!Thank you, Lord, for your constant and unconditional love. Remind us to cast our cares to you each day and leave them in your Hands.  In Jesus’ name, Amen
